Chug Demokratia in the Sommermachane

Supporting democracy in Israel during the Sommermachane 2023

This year, in light of the democratic crisis in #Israel, we have decided to lead the “Chug Demokratia”: an activity planned to explain a bit on what is happening in Israel, but also strengthen the critical thinking about spreading situations where our civil rights are endangered by extreme right-wing governments.

Other than reflecting on the frustration and difficulties that occur when your freedom and rights are being threatened, we have practiced solidarity by learning about @HashomerHatzair Israel’s participation in the protest movement in Israel, looked at demo signs – and made our own – and then we held a solidarity demo in the camp! It was great, and very inspiring.

Hashomer Hatzair is a democratic and emancipatory secular Jewish youth association that stands up for the rights and interests of children and young people. Through non-formal educational work and critical pedagogy based on solidarity, we try to realise our vision of a free, equal and just society. The association works to connect and strengthen the pluralistic community, for the recognition of Judaism as a shared culture and history.
